Our team.
McKayla Peterson, DVM (Owner)
Dr. Peterson was born and raised in Gillette, Wyoming. She attended Eastern Wyoming College where she received a scholarship to play volleyball while achieving her Associate of Science Degree. She then transferred to the University of Wyoming and completed her Bachelor of Science Degree. She spent a veterinary-based semester abroad in Thailand where she worked on many different species, with elephants being her favorite animal to work on. She then moved to the beautiful Caribbean Island, St. Kitts, where she completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, and spent her clinical year at the University of Florida.
Dr. Peterson, and her husband, Kaleb, have two fur babies, their island dog, Dobby that was adopted from St. Kitts, and their three-legged cat Ginny, that was adopted on Dr. Peterson’s shelter medicine rotation at the University of Florida.
Dr. Peterson fell in love with veterinary medicine because she wanted to be a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. She especially enjoys soft tissue surgery, dentistry, geriatric/quality of life care (she loves the puppies but seniors hold a special place in her heart) and is certified in acupuncture. She hopes to create lifelong care for those special animals you call family, and help in all ways to the best of her ability.
Kaleb Kurtzer, Hospital Administrator (Owner)
Kaleb grew up in the small town of Sterling, Colorado, where the wide-open skies and tight-knit community shaped much of who he is today. Life on the Eastern Plains taught him early the value of hard work, perseverance, and family. From a young age, Kaleb was raised on a ranch, where long days were spent with his dad. Fixing fences, and feeding horses were daily routines. Including his dad’s first horse, Sajack!
Even though ranch chores kept him busy, Sterling also provided plenty of opportunities for enjoying the outdoors and creating memories with friends and family. Summers meant long days at the lake, where Kaleb developed a love for boating, fishing, and the simple peace that comes from being on the water. To this day, spending time on the lake is one of his favorite ways to unwind and recharge.
Another passion Kaleb picked up over the years is barbecuing. For him, barbecue isn’t just about the food—it’s about gathering people together. Whether it’s perfecting a smoked brisket, flipping burgers for friends, or trying out a new recipe, he enjoys the process of cooking outdoors and creating meals that bring others around the table. That same spirit of connection and community has always carried over into the other areas of his life.
Professionally, Kaleb excited to become hospital administrator alongside his wife, Dr. Peterson. Opening the animal hospital has been a dream of theirs. Together, they share a vision of providing exceptional care and building an environment where both pet, owner, and staff alike feel supported.
Kim, Licensed Veterinary Technician - Lead Technician
Originally from Minnesota, Kim moved with her family to Colorado when she was 10 years old. She received her Veterinary Technician certification from Front Range Community College in 1999 and has worked in the Longmont area since getting her degree and certification.
The diversity of the job is Kim’s favorite part of her work; no two days are ever the same in veterinary medicine and she can’t imagine doing anything else. She loves making patients feel as comfortable as possible and treating clients like family.
Outside of work, Kim loves spending time with her husband, four grown boys, friends, family and pets. Her favorite activities include watching a wide variety of sports, electric scooter rides and thrifting.
Kim is excited for the opportunity to build more relationships with clients and their pets in the Berthoud area with the Sajack Animal Hospital family!
Katelyn, Veterinary Assistant, Client Service Representative
Originally from New York, Katelyn has lived in Colorado most of her life. She graduated Veterinary Assisting school in 2010 and has been working with animals ever since. For a few years, she lived on a working pheasant farm in South Dakota and worked at a small farm-town clinic where she worked in every aspect of the hospital. She has since furthered her veterinary skills working in emergency, surgery, general practice, holistic practice and even veterinary dermatology! She is also a certified pet-sitter.
Katelyn loves the small-town feel and enjoys building relationships with clients & their pets. With great empathy, she enjoys being there for each pet from their first puppy/kitten visit to guiding them over the rainbow bridge. She has a passion for looking at each pet from a whole body perspective and unraveling the root cause of their symptoms. She has a special passion for exploring the unique role of holistic practices and seeing how they can complement traditional medicine.
When she’s not greeting clients with a big smile at the front desk, Katelyn enjoys spending time on their small hobby farm with her two young boys, 4 dogs, 5 chickens and her musician husband, John. In her spare time, she loves to explore the mountains, kayak with her dogs, go camping, four-wheeling, dance and diamond paint.
Aubrey has been in veterinary medicine since 2016 and is currently in school to obtain her Registered/Certified Veterinary Technician status! Aubrey brought her skills and expertise to Sajack when they opened their doors in 2026!

She is patient and loves being as fear-free as possible, allowing your furry family member to set the pace and feel comfortable. Aubrey loves being able to make vet visits a positive experience for nervous pets (and owners!).
Outside of work, she enjoys photography, hiking, paddleboarding, movies and gaming.

Cadence, Veterinary Assistant
Adriana, Veterinary Assistant, Certified Canine Massage Therapist
Adriana has worked with animals since her senior year in High School. She has valuable experience from working in: general practice, shelter, lab, ER, and specialty.
She is currently delving into how holistic modalities complement western medicine. She is specifically interested in TCM and how the meridians connect to the organ system and emotions of the animal. She is currently working towards an APA (Animal Psych-Aromatica) practitioner certification.
She feels there is always the emotional side to consider in our animal friends. Addressing their physical discomforts are only part of the picture that makes them the individuals they are in that moment.
Her current outside of work interests are reading, writing, driving around the mountains, watching her chickens and ducks be silly, and spending time with her dogs, Tala and Titan.
