The Best of Both Worlds: Why We’re Bringing Acupuncture to Berthoud
As a veterinarian, my first commitment is always to what works. For years, "what works" has meant the traditional Western medicine I studied and practiced—diagnostics, surgery, and pharmaceuticals. At Sajack Animal Hospital, we are firmly rooted in those proven methods; they are the backbone of how we save lives every day.
However, being "set in our ways" doesn't mean we should close our eyes to innovation.
In Northern Colorado, Veterinary Acupuncture isn't a resource you’ll find in every neighborhood clinic. It’s often seen as an "alternative," but I prefer to see it as a powerful complement. After seeing the results it can provide for chronic pain and mobility, I knew it was an innovation I wanted to bring home to our Berthoud community.
Bridging the Gap: Innovation Meets Tradition
I’ll be the first to admit that, at first glance, the idea of tiny needles helping a 100-pound Labrador walk better feels a bit outside the "traditional" box. But the science behind it is fascinating.
Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points on the body to improve blood circulation, stimulate the nervous system, and release the body’s natural pain-relieving hormones. It’s not "magic"—it’s a biological reset.
By integrating this into our practice, we aren't moving away from traditional medicine; we are adding another tool to our belt. We’re bridging the gap between ancient wisdom and modern clinical care.
Why Consider Acupuncture for Your Pet?
Because this treatment is still relatively rare in our immediate area, many pet owners are surprised to learn how versatile it is. We often recommend it for:
• Chronic Arthritis & Joint Pain: Especially for our senior pets who might be sensitive to traditional pain medications.
• Recovery from Surgery: It can significantly speed up the healing process and reduce inflammation after a procedure.
• Neurological Issues: Helping pets with "slipped discs" or nerve weakness regain their footing.
• Quality of Life: Sometimes, it’s about that extra "spark"—improving energy levels and comfort in pets who are just slowing down.
A Quiet, Calming Experience
One of my favorite things about offering acupuncture at Sajack is how peaceful the sessions are. Much like our feline and end-of-life care, we prioritize a calm environment. Most pets actually relax so much during their treatment that they nearly fall asleep. It’s a quiet moment of healing in the middle of a busy week.
Our Commitment to Progress
At Sajack Animal Hospital, we will always provide the high-tech, traditional medical care you expect from a top-tier facility. But we also promise to never stop looking for "the next thing" that could make your pet’s life better.
Whether it's a complex surgery or a gentle acupuncture session, our goal remains the same: keeping your best friend healthy, happy, and right by your side here in Northern Colorado.
If you’ve been curious about whether acupuncture could help your pet, I’d love to have that conversation with you. Let’s look at the innovations together.
Warmly,
Dr. Peterson
